This vintage chronograph from Baume & Mercier has an overall very attractive appearance. The original cream white dial with applied golden numerals has one subdial for seconds and one chronograph minute counter.
Along the edge of the dial there is a tachymeter scale, something which are commonly found on chronographs. By timing how long it takes to complete a predefined distance, for example a kilometer, the central chronograph hand will point to a number along the edge of the dial telling you how many of these units of measure you will travel in one hour.
Just inside the tachymetre there is another scale called a telemeter which is something a bit more unusual. It is meant to be used to measure the distance to things based on the speed of sound. For example, by timing the delay between lightning and the sound of thunder, it will tell you how far away the thunderstorm is.
The movement, which is signed Baume & Mercier, is manual with a beat of 18,000 A/h. It has a healthy amplitude and keeps good time. Both chronograph pushers operate the way they should and the central chrono hand and minute counter reset perfectly to the zero position.
The stainless steel case back is signed Baume & Mercier and has the number 612404.
The gold plated case has wear consistent with what you would expect from a watch of this age which has been taken well care of.
The domed acrylic crystal is scratch free.
The watch comes fitted on a rather bold tan/orange reptile embossed faux leather strap which works well with the gold and cream colours. However it may not be for everybody so we'll include a more modest leather strap as well.
This is an old watch and while it has passed our testing and does keep time and has a good power reserve, it must be taken into account that it is a vintage watch and its performance is not to be compared to modern quartz watches.
This watch comes with a zipped and padded high-quality travel case from our German supplier Beco-Technic and a certificate of authenticity from Arlington Watches.
