Gruen is the English spelling of the German word for the colour green and the name of German-born watchmaker Dietrich Grün who founded the Gruen Watch Company in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1908.
This 10 carat gold filled Gruen Pan American Official is from the period 1945-1948. The movement was assembled in Switzerland before the Second World War and it was cased after the war in the USA.
It is in very good condition for its age. The 24-hour two-tone dial in copper/grey-white is impeccable. It has indices for hours, minutes/seconds, and down to 1/5th of a second. Over the busy dial we have blue hour and minute hands and the second had is red.
The case is in very good condition for its age with only minor signs of wear, most noticeable at the backside of the tips of the lugs.
The watch is fitted on a padded black leather strap that complements the fancy layered lug shape.
This watch is very old and while it has passed our testing and does keep time and has a good power reserve, it must be taken into account that it is a vintage watch and its accuracy is not to be compared to modern quartz watches. The 17 jewelled movement has a good tick and beats at 18,000 bph.
This watch comes in a practical travel case, certificate of authenticity and one year warranty from Arlington watches.
